Chapter 35

Kara

"His name is G'Jang," I murmur as Daniel tends to my wounds. "He's a god, and I'm his primary target."

I lie on Daniel's bed, listening to the exhausted Witches cook breakfast and brew coffee downstairs. The sutures Daniel puts into my numerous cuts and gashes hurt, but I'm too tired even to wince.

Dawn was over an hour ago, and strong sunlight streams through the curtains, nearly blinding me. I shut my eyes and turn my face away from the window.

"I only need to know if he can be killed," Daniel says, his hands busy stitching.

"Yeah. He can be."

"Not by you," he snaps, his green eyes glaring like bright emeralds. "You shouldn't have taken him on alone, Kara. That was reckless."

Reckless is my middle name, but I'm too tired to tease Daniel.

"Maybe. But I managed to hurt him."

"If we hadn't shown up, his soldiers would have torn you apart."

"G'Jang wants to kill me himself."

As Daniel mutters a series of swear words under his breath, a knock at the open door redirects our attention, and I'm secretly grateful.

"I'm sorry to disturb you." Desmond walks inside. "I've received word from the council. We need to talk."
